Certified Tutor

I graduated with a Master's Degree in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry from Newcastle University in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England and am working towards a Biotechnology Lab Technician certification. I tutor math (up through calculus I), English, and science, including AP/IB courses. I am particularly passionate about math and science, especially chemistry, as I love helping students understand these fascinating subjects.

My philosophy is to figure out what concepts and skills students have difficulty with and help them to practice and gain confidence in those particular areas. I also believe in encouraging students to develop a strong organizational system and good study skills that help them to engage with the material. While I prefer to focus on understanding rather than "teaching to the test," I think that identifying the key learning objectives and skills that teachers and schools assess helps students to feel more prepared for exams and develop their test-taking skills. As a peer mentor at my university, I found that students' main concerns revolved around figuring out what was expected of them in the course, so while I know a lot about many specific subjects, I believe that these "big picture" preparation strategies are also important.
