Crystal: Orland Park tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a senior at the University of Texas at Austin pursuing dual honors degrees: a B.S. in Environmental Geosciences and a B.A. in African & African Diaspora Studies. After graduation, I plan to pursue a P.h.D in Geosciences.
My passion for education began with my first job leading children's garden field trips at the Dallas Arboretum. Since then, I've remained committed to environmental education for K-12 students. Most recently, I completed a yearlong internship with the City of Austin, where I developed and led youth workshops, assisted in classrooms, and created lesson plans.
While I've tutored a wide range of subjects, I'm especially passionate about Earth Sciences (geology, environmental science, and ecology) as well as English Language Arts, including reading, writing, and comprehension. My decision to become a tutor was inspired by my childhood math tutor, whose constant encouragement helped me grow confident and succeed in a rigorous STEM field.
As a lifelong Girl Scout, summer camp counselor, and peer mentor, I bring an approachable, energetic teaching style that helps keep students engaged, whether we're diving into plate tectonics or unpacking figurative language!

In my spare time, I’m working toward my yearly goal of reading 50 books on Goodreads, crocheting cozy sweaters for my beagle, and spending as much time outdoors as possible. I recently returned from an incredible backpacking trip through New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado, and I’m already planning the next adventure!
