I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

With forty-five years of teaching experience in the US and abroad, in a variety of disciplines, and with a variety of students, I hope I can improve the capabilities of those with whom I work! I try to encourage students to feel good about their progress, even if sometimes progress simply means passing. It's important to contribute the effort by both the tutor and the student, and to always remember that listening, accepting challenges, and laughter can contribute enormously to one's learning and one's self esteem.

I have four degrees: a BA in English and Speech from UW Eau Claire, an MA in Theatre from Purdue University, a Ph.D. in American Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Denver, and an MSc in Information and Library Studies from Robert Gordon University in Scotland. I also have a CELTA certification. With my broad experience, I can tutor in a variety of areas--academic writing, the research paper both undergraduate and graduate (as in theses and dissertations), creative writing of poetry, prose and essays, American literature from 1865 onward, British literature from the same period, public speaking, dramatic literature, theatre history, film history and literature--that's just a sampling. Of all of the subjects I teach, I do enjoy teaching all kinds of writing, as well as public speaking, but all of the areas I've listed give me pleasure.

I have listed my outside interests. I am a film geek, and I love the fine and performing arts. If you share any of my interests, I look even more toward meeting you! In any case, here's hoping you will want to work with me as we strengthen your skills, your interests, and your potential!
