First and foremost, I love to teach, especially one-on-one. Students and I seem to relate very well with each other through my conversational style of teaching. I am comfortable with any age of student, from elementary school to adults continuing their studies.
I am a graduate of Georgia College and State University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on secondary education and my Master of Education in English education. I taught both high school and college freshman-level English courses for 30 years. I also have taught private piano lessons to children aged 5 and up for the past 6 years, and I was an elementary school music teacher for 2 years. For 3 years I taught English to Chinese students through an online program. These were all native speaking elementary-aged Chinese students.
I tutor a broad range of English language arts, including vocabulary, writing, and literature. While high school and adult levels are my forte, I enjoy elementary-aged children as well.
I have experience teaching Advanced Placement English and preparing students for standardized tests, including the SAT and ACT English portions. I consider myself a life-long learner, always enjoying the many things I can learn from students as they learn language skills from me.

I am an avowed Anglophile, having visited Britain 4 times in my adult life, including a summer-long intensive experience in London. For nerdy fun I read about idioms and word histories, particularly British English. I also have an affinity for detective novels and movies/t.v. shows, and I enjoy reading contemporary nonfiction. Playing word games on my phone is another thing I enjoy too much! I am also a life-long singer and pianist, both being ways I wind down at the end of the day. My husband (an AP World History teacher) and I love to travel, and we have led 6 student trips to Europe over the last 15 years. I have been married for 34 years and have three adult children, and I adore spending time with family and friends.
