I have been a RN since 1980 and an APN in Mental Health Nursing since 1984 certified by the ANA. I spent the last 15 years as a Nurse Executive in addition to practice. I have maintained my medsurg skills throughout my career and am very experienced in individual, group and family therapy including CBT and addictions. I love being a nurse and hope to impart that passion to you. No other health profession focuses on healing the mind, body and spirit as we do.
Excellence requires being a lifelong learner as what we thought we knew was best practice changes continually. You must be prepared to constantly keep abreast of changes in evidenced based practice and unlearn what you thought you knew.
I am expert in mental health, geriatrics, teaching and management. I was Chief Nurse of Mental Health, Extended Care and the Nursing House Supervisors for many years. I recently retired from the VA and want to spend time training new nurses and APNs which are sorely needed.
