To me, teaching should encourage students to reach goals as well as to recognize and celebrate success! My two goals are to encourage each student to build confidence and to teach to the strengths and interests of him/her.
I am a graduate of the University of Georgia, where I received my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. After ten years of teaching, I continued teaching as I attended Georgia Southwestern State University to earn my Master's Degree in Specific Learning Disorders/Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. Why those fields, you may wonder? Well, I have always enjoyed helping students learn, and I found out quickly that our individual learning styles do differ! I added these two teaching areas because I wanted to be aware of methods and strategies to be able to help a variety of learners. I enjoy teaching individuals or small groups with different methods to work towards success for the students! Seeing my students excel is very motivating. I have been able to experience teaching in both public schools and private schools - thirty-one years and fourteen years, respectively.
I enjoy elementary mathematics and history classes; however, my true love is teaching and tutoring reading, writing, and literature. When teaching in Crisp County, I received SRA Training in Distar Reading, Corrective Reading, and Corrective Math.
I gained valuable experience with remediating students by using these courses. I also trained in SUCCESS Reading and taught remedial courses to students who were struggling readers. The Wilson Reading Program was also provided to me to help specific older SLD readers.
I have had the good fortune to teach all grade levels --- yes, primary levels, elementary levels, middle school levels, and high school levels of students: regular education students, gifted students, remedial classes, and special needs groups in SLD or EBD classes. I have also been a part of co-teaching classes in English and math. At my most recent teaching position, I taught the ABEKA curriculum.
I also want to share that I have been awarded the Teacher of the Year Award three different times, three different schools, three different decades!!! The years were 1984, 1992, and 2007. I share this because I want you to see I am dependable, I care deeply for my students, and I desire for them to succeed!
My ability to move to various levels in my teaching career of forty-five years has truly made me a better teacher! I know and understand the connections > the big picture!
I look forward to working with new students who are looking for that person to help them master any skills that tend to be a challenge! We can do this together! We will work for success!!

I love music! As a matter of fact, I began my college career majoring in music! I play clarinet, saxophone, organ, piano and I chord and pick guitar. I enjoy many styles of music, but I must say I prefer seventies music as my favorite! I believe the statement that music is a great activity for the brain! I also enjoy dabbling with oil paints and acrylic paints. Students enjoyed my art in my classroom. Word puzzles are relaxing to me, and I WORDLE everyday while I enjoy my morning coffee! The last few years I have not been reading as much as I like, so I have a goal for myself to read more daily in order to enjoy novels that have been suggested to me. I also am a pet person...My mini-dachshund , Toby, is my newest animal...he is my buddy! He was my Christmas present from my hubby last year. Spending time with my seven grandchildren --- four boys and three girls---is always fun! And I enjoy working in my backyard flower beds and watching birds. Every day is a joy for me! I like to try to share parts of my interests and hobbies with my students. These connections improve teacher-student relationships and actually improve our ability to work together! When I can, I bring the interest of students into lessons. Students are more motivated to learn! Even though I am a retired teacher, I am a teacher forever and always willing to provide what's needed to help students reach success!
