I am in my 26th year of teaching. My current classroom is Second Grade. I teach all subjects and feel I am well versed on a variety of programs and techniques being used to guide student learning. I have a bachelor's degree in grades 1-8 for regular education as well as K-12 for Special Education. I also hold a Master's Degree in Reading. Throughout my career, I have attended several professional developments and have well over 50 hours of coursework beyond my Master's Degree.
I believe learning should be fun for all students especially if a subject seems hard. All students should be given the tools or strategies that work for them in order to be successful. I keep my students engaged and include what my students like in their learning so the subject makes more sense and what they are learning becomes permanent to memory. My rapport with students is important to me as it leads to them asking questions when they don't understand and creates a better learning experience for them as well. My favorite subject to tutor is reading. Reading can be frustrating and intimidating to children and it doesn't need to be. It is the foundation for all subjects and I want to ensure students feel confident. I have used many research based strategies and programs for teaching reading which gives me many tools to help students I tutor. I am passionate about helping children learn because they deserve to lead life with confidence.
