I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

I have numerous years of working with children whether it be childcare, working as a paraprofessional, or simply raising my own.

In high school I thrived in my child development classes and wished there were more of these types of offerings throughout high school.

My instincts with children have been my main drive. Children are people too and deserve the opportunity to grow into successful and confident adults. Children I have worked with have received respect from me because its simply who I am.

When raising our children I was always sure to get all sides of the story when conflicts came up. I did so with both or all of them present because I always believed it was important each of them was heard by the other and the other had the opportunity to defend, add, or discuss things. Thera are always two sides and resolving conflicts or problems in a fair and open manner was important; not just to myself but also to my children. That philosophy has been a standard in all my years of working with kids.

While my Bachelors degree is not in the child development field I have always felt it was my calling to care for, love, and be with children.

I currently work as a remote tutor as well as babysit three wee ones under the age of two. And I love every second of it.

Working with kids, helping them to learn and grow through hands on or via educational materials is important to them. Exploring, trial and error, and experiencing life lessons are all a part of this.
We aren't taught in school how to survive in the world outside of academics. There's much more involved and I love to incorporate those lessons into my teaching.

I am a very patient and fun person and kids and I love to laugh, giggle, chat and learn together. I am older but young at heart.

Two mottos within my daily reminders are:

This too shall pass.
Find the positive in the negative.

I live these every day; even on days many would crumble. For kids, positive is always the best policy. Explaining why it's ok to make mistakes is important and to try again is important.

None of us adults got where we are with out trial and error, mistakes or mishaps. Live and learn, this is how I conduct my life.

Hobbies

I enjoy many outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, fishing, golf, shuffleboard, cornhole, bocce ball and nature in general. I like to read books but do tend to take a break every once in awhile and work on crossword books or play games on my iPad. I dabble in photography occasionally but hate editing. And I am the eye behind the camera, not the subject! :0)
