I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Ananthi

Certified Tutor

My educational background is in mathematics and biology. I completed a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in mathematics at The George Washington University (USA). Subsequently, I completed a Master's of Research in Mathematics in the Living Environment at the University of York (UK) and a PhD in mathematical biology at the University of Dundee (UK).

While I was a student at The George Washington University, I was a teacher's assistant for an undergraduate mathematics course. I have also worked as a teacher's assistant for an undergraduate biology lab. For the past two years I have been tutoring students of different levels and age groups ranging from young children to adults in mathematics and English as a foreign language.

As a maths tutor, I specialise in teaching 11+ and Key Stage 3 maths. I am passionate about teaching because I want to help others succeed in their education so that they may have a solid foundation upon which to build their careers. I also like the camaraderie that I develop with students and enjoy working together on solving problems with them, particularly problems that are challenging.

In terms of my approach to teaching, I try to do my utmost to help students understand the material. At the same time, I want to make the students become independent thinkers and confident learners. Instead of giving them answers straightaway, I ask questions and try to guide them to solve problems on their own.

Aside from teaching I enjoy going to art galleries, reading and playing brain games.
