In 2019 I graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas with a degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Biology. More recently (December 2022) I graduated from Texas State University with my masters degree in Population and Conservation Biology- a field focused on the workings and interactions of populations within ecological communities. Within the Population and Conservation Biology program, I was able to deepen my knowledge in fields such as evolution, ecology, animal behavior, GIS, and statistics/experimental design. With my advisor, I developed a thesis over the relationship between broad scale habitat characteristics and the hybridization patterns of Tufted and Black-crested Titmice in central Texas. In addition to taking courses and conducting research, I was an Instructional Assistant (IA) throughout my five semesters at Texas State. I taught various undergraduate labs that pertained to ecology, evolution, and general science. My objective as a teacher of the biological and environmental sciences is to help students become efficient and confident in thinking scientifically. I strive for the topics, theories, and practices taught by myself to be easily accessible to my students so they may effectively apply them within and outside of the classroom or tutoring environment. I want my students to understand how everything taught is integrated and to end classes or sessions feeling prepared to tackle more complex topics that build on their existing standing of knowledge. I believe it is important to maintain an objective and stern approach to teaching, but to also remain flexible, relatable, and accessible to your students. I have adhered to this philosophy throughout my five semesters of teaching as a graduate student and have largely seen growth and success in my students.
