I've had a pretty varied background with teaching, coaching, and mentoring. I spent 30 years in the Navy and retired in 2014. During much of my career as an Enlisted Sailor, I was behind a podium, teaching a myriad of topics ranging from personal finances, to personal protection. I also taught investigative and criminal justice courses for Central Texas College.
One of my favorite civic duties was volunteering at local elementary schools, and helping challenged students with reading and math. This allowed me to see that spark in the eyes of a child when a lesson sinks in. Those moments are special.
These moments happen at all ages. I experienced them during all of my teaching and instructing sessions, in one form or another. It's what led me to pursue a degree in education, and want to learn more about HOW we learn.
We each process, absorb, and apply material differently. I feel it is important to understand how a student learns, and then use those best practices to instill, to the student, that learning CAN BE enjoyable. Once that magic happens, the sky is the limit!
I have a BA in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice, a Masters in Education with an emphasis on Education Technology, and a PhD in Education, with a focus on Learning, Innovation and Instruction. My dissertation topic was, "Understanding the lived experiences of traumatic brain injury students in online courses."
I look forward to meeting you!

I have SO many hobbies!! I like to paint and draw. I love photography, and any art, really. I'm a big fan of surrealism, but I also like the old masters. I was lucky enough to visit Europe and see many of the museums, coliseums, and architecture. I make homemade soap. I used to make candles, and I've made beer and wine, as well. I love to research and try making things from scratch. I do a bit of crocheting, mainly in the winter months. I'm also a techy, and love computer gaming and my PS4. Last, but not least, there are my critters - I love animals. I currently have 4 house cats, one dog, and one semi-feral cat that I'm trying to befriend before winter sets in. If I had a bigger house and land, I would probably have a zoo, but I know my limits.
