Certified Tutor

I am an experienced teacher and have taught for over 25 years and in this time received excellent inspection reports. I am currently employed part-time as a music and music tech teacher (also teaching Music Theory).

I would describe my teaching style as enthusiastic with a good sense of humour and above all respect for my students.

I have taught GCSE Music & Drama and A-Level Music. I have also taught BTEC Performing Arts and BTEC Music. Along with my academic qualifications I have Grade 8 Tuba (merit), Grade 8 Piano (merit) and Grade 8 Theory (100%).

Although my main specialism is brass instruments, I am also able to teach keyboard and theory of music. I enter students for a range of Associated Board Examinations, and I am delighted that I have accomplished a 100% pass rate.

I am an accomplished pianist and arranger. I have arranged music for brass/wind ensembles, accompanied students in exams and rehearsed and directed school choirs and other ensembles.

During school holidays I am involved in projects with aspiring youngsters from all over the country. I have been the Tuba Tutor with the National Children's Brass Band of Great Britain (since 2005).

In 1995 I was invited to audition for the Black Dyke Mills Brass Band and gained a position in the tuba section. I have played in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Sydney Opera House and the Royal Albert Hall. The band has appeared on television, radio and on over a hundred CD recordings.

I am enthusiastic, motivating and have very good subject knowledge. I do everything in my power to maximise the life chances of students in a friendly, caring environment. I am continually reviewing my performance in lessons to motivate all students to reach their full potential.

I have good ICT skills (Apple Mac and PC) with considerable experience of Sibelius music software. I have also a good knowledge of Cubase and Logic music software.

I have excellent working relationships with colleagues, students and parents; I possess many cards and letters of thanks received from students and parents over the years.
