In 2010, I moved from New York to Florida and was totally shocked by the devastation the Financial Crisis of 2008 had caused in my little town of Vero Beach. Every 3rd house was in foreclosure or selling for less than $50,000. I had to understand what happened. So I went back to school and studied Economics. My education gave me an understanding of the societal circumstances that could disproportionately affect certain segments of the population. Since graduating, I have dedicated my career to serving disadvantaged communities by assisting them in gaining the necessary resources and skills to grow and thrive. I have worked with resources such as food, medical assistance, case management, and most recently education. Working as a Math Teacher/Tutor at the Literacy Alliance has been such a joy as I am witness to the excitement my students have when they begin to learn and see new opportunities that become available to them.
