Sherry: Chester County tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of The University of New Mexico, where I earned a BS in Elementary Education and MA in Elementary Education, with an emphasis on Reading Instruction. Since graduation, I worked for The Clark County School District for over twenty years as an elementary school teacher. During that time, I also was a Lead Team member, a mentor teacher for student teachers, a tutor in after-school programs, a presenter at the West Coast Literacy Conference, a literacy specialist with an emphasis on dyslexia, a Professional Development teacher for other teachers, a Girl Scout leader at my school, and more. I have continued my own education by taking over 60 credit hours of course work in literacy, phonics, and writing instruction. I am rated as a "highly effective" teacher in the State of Nevada, where I still hold a valid teaching license. In addition to being qualified to teach grades K-8, I also have Reading and TESL endorsements on my license. My personal goal has always been to be a life-long learner and to share my knowledge with students. I retired last year to move closer to my family, and I am now interested in tutoring those who might need extra help with literacy instruction. I know how to get students reading at grade-level and above.

My first love has always been drawing and painting with watercolors. This interest began in childhood and has continued ever since. I have educated myself with on-line classes from nationally-known artists. I was rewarded for my hard work by becoming the art teacher at my last teaching position. In addition to art, my other passions include: creating quilts solely by hand, cooking, especially French and New Mexico cuisine, gardening, and educational reading.
