I think one of the most rewarding moments is that "ah-ha!" moment youth have with they really begin to understand a concept or idea. I love seeing the light in their eyes as they have that moment of realization. This is what drives me to help students learn.

Most of my experience with youth has come from the Scouting programs. There I helped children develop life-long skills in leadership, the outdoors, and arts. I taught one-on-one and small group classes in art, sculpture, and a variety of other creative skills. From this, I've developed a teaching style based on experiential learning and hands on application. I feel a student learns best from being able to explore their world around them. By allowing them to explore their ideas and concepts, we help them grow.

I tutor mostly arts with a little art history to provide some background information. But teaching students how to draw sets the framework to understanding and developing strong skills, the key to good artwork. Drawing calls on other skills learned in classes such as math, geometry, and sometimes history as we look back at how ideas developed. Art pulls together all disciplines and give us a safe space to explore other learning.

I graduated from Towson University with a degree in Interdisciplinary Art, meaning I can dabble is just about anything. While I can work with anything from fabrics to metals, my favorite medium is glass.
