Certified Tutor

I started teaching 3rd grade in Ridgeland, South Carolina, in 2006. I have been in the field for over 20 years. Before teaching, I served in the United States Navy as a Dental Technician for five years with an Honorable Discharge. I was married to a Naval Officer for 20 years, and I have two very smart boys, Salaam and Rashaun, 42 and 32 respectively. I pursued teaching as a career field because Salaam was born hearing-impaired, and I believed I could best advocate for his special needs if I was on the inside. I became a part of a system I did not trust to educate my bi-laterally hearing impaired son. I'm proud to say that he graduated high school and college with honors! Every child can learn! I have proof!
I hold a Master of Science in Foundations of Education and a Master of Science in Educational Technology. I also have a BA in Psychology. I am Highly Qualified on my teaching certification! All of this guides my ability to lead within my school and the district. I was named Teacher of the Year twice, in the same district. Together with my students, we set goals for their learning and for my growth as a teacher. My lesson plans are created with 'growth' in mind. Wish me luck as I start this new endeavor!
