I am very motivated to equip young minds to learn more about the academic world, introducing them to mathematics and languages, such as English, Chinese, and Spanish. I went to school abroad in Beijing in the top 3 ranked high schools, so I've had experiences tutoring Chinese students with English, and international students in Beijing with Chinese amongst all different types of students with different needs. I connected with them because I understood the struggles students face when language is a barrier. I was an ESL student myself in elementary school, so I understand the importance of patience and how that can shape a student's learning experience.
Some children I taught math to were involved in their learning and assessed their knowledge through fun 'game' based exercises. I was able to observe the academic gains from children working collaboratively in groups. The most rewarding thing was to see everyone develop and continue to find new, effective ways of teaching.
