I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Students should be passionate about the work they do, yet too many feel like they're being pushed through the wringer for no reason. Too often do I hear students complain about how "none of the work will every apply to me in the future" and frankly, given the current academic climate, I feel that they're right. My goal as a tutor is to empower students with knowledge, and deliver passion that may hopefully rub off and give a stronger appreciation for the sciences.

I have worked with a wide variety of students including Pre-K, Elementary School, High School, College, and even some adults. I'm currently enrolled as a Physics Major and Philosophy Minor at the University of Maryland College Park, and I hope to tutor Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Algebra II, Trigonometry, AP Physics I, AP Physics C, AP Calc AB, and College Physics.

My favorite subject to tutor is definitely Physics. Each of the problems are like little riddles, and it's up to our ingenuity as scientists to discover the key. With a little elbow grease (and some research), getting to the solution is a breeze.

Outside of tutoring, I like to travel the state of Maryland, read, watch movies, play video games, keep up with the news, spend time with my family, and learn new things. Curiosity guides me through life, so I can't really sit still without wanting to go explore.

As a tutor, I believe the key goal is to elicit some interest from a student. Learning a new subject can be difficult, and too many times are students cornered into rogue memorization. It may work come test-taking season, but the information will not be retained beyond the day it is needed. For a student to truly appreciate what's being discussed, they must first appreciate their own skill and the opportunities offered by mastering the subject. I don't look to challenge my students, as I think the key to academic success is confidence in one's abilities and an appreciation for the material.
