My Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Physics is from Aquinas College (1972). After graduating, I worked as an industrial chemist for about 30 years.
My post-baccalaureate in education is from Rio Salado College (2004). I then taught a number of math and science courses in the classroom for about ten years.
I first tutored when I was in college. I worked with a few other tutor placement agencies before starting with Varsity four years ago. I have tutored a number of math and science subjects, but AP Chemistry is my specialty.
My teaching philosophy is that any subject can be mastered once the student has acquired the background skills. My tutoring style is to discover the missing skills and build them through examples. For AP Chemistry students, this means reviewing the types of questions AP covers and providing the background and methods needed to understand and correctly answer them.

I really like traveling with my wife. We've been to a lot of places, most recently Czechia and Germany. I interested in everything, but focus on learning science and technology. Lately, I've been reading about the history of chemistry and influential scientists. One of my hobbies has been to acquire, learn the OS, and do minor repairs on Windows, Apple, and Linux systems. In the past I wrote some fairly complex programs with Visual Basic. I have almost finished writing a short manual on refining gold and silver. It's got a lot of chemistry in it! My main guilty pleasure is watching movies and series, mostly science fiction and crime dramas.
