I have been teaching at the college and high-school levels for 20 years. I was a research scientist working in a lab, but once I started teaching classes as an adjunct, I found my true calling. I love teaching: interacting with students, helping people solve problems, and seeing those light-bulb moments when someone really grasps a concept.
I earned my PhD and my BS degrees at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. I earned my BA degree at Columbia University in New York, NY.
My tutoring subjects, in alphabetical order: Astronomy, Biology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, and Geology. I am comfortable teaching these courses at advanced levels.
I have also taught chemistry and would be a good fit for a college-prep high school student.
I believe that learning should be engaging, fun, but also involve a lot of hard work.

My top hobby is playing tenor saxophone. For the past 3 years, I have really upped my jazz improvisation. I have a very individual tone, which is favorably remarked upon by many musicians. My kids are in their early 20's and it has been bittersweet to watch them leave the nest. I also love my ancient pug named Gizmo!
