I'm passionate about helping students because I love the feeling I get when someone finally understands something they've been struggling with. I also love teaching because I find that it helps me further understand the subject I am teaching and gives me a greater appreciation for the material as well as those from whom I've learned it. Over my life, I've had experience teaching a wide variety of students ranging from kids, high school students, visiting foreign scholars at my university.

I recently graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in Biology. Before going on to do a Master's in Computer Science, I'm taking some time off to pursue teaching and expand my learning.

I've taught subjects such as: algebra, pre-calculus, geometry, biology, physics, chemistry, SAT prep, GRE prep, and even violin! My favorite subject to teach however, is math. I love teaching math because it is the foundation of so many different subjects. Without a firm understanding of mathematics, it is difficult to comprehend subjects such as chemistry, physics, or even computer science. It also changes the way you think and interact with the world.

As a teacher, my approach revolves around observing how a student usually breaks down and solves a problem. If a student is having difficulty with something, he or she is often misinterpreting a key part of the problem or is failing to summon the knowledge required to solve it. Where I come in is in identifying these misinterpretations and helping the student make connections where he or she was failing to see them.

Outside of academia, I love being out in nature, spending time with family, friends and my dog, as well as playing reggae on my guitar. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
