Being born and raised in Haiti, I was fortunate enough to attend private and be able to learn and practice French on a daily basis. In school, I would learn about the rules, the grammar, and the vocabulary that come with the French language while practicing at school but also with my friends and family.
Now, that I came to United States, I have been able to still maintain the language by practicing with friends and family, also by reading books but main importantly by working with a large French community in Harlem. I used to work full-time for an adult literacy program and most of the participants I worked for were French speakers from African countries. While they were taking ESL classes, I did find myself communicate with them in French to get to know their needs and to serve them better. I was used as a translator and interpreter when it was needed.
I've never taught French before, however, I've helped a few U.S born friends with homework and pronunciation/ conversation. I always consider myself being lucky if not blessed to be multilingual, and being able to help someone or share my knowledge regarding the language is more than I could ask. That is why I decided to give tutoring a try and also give myself room for growth.
