Certified Tutor

From as far back as I can remember, I have had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a drive to share it with others. In fact, I attribute the highlights of my professional career as being fueled by my passion for teaching, my affinity for establishing meaningful connections, and my unwavering commitment to lifelong learning. It all started with my first Accounting Principles class in college; I was shocked to discover both a knack and fascination with the subject matter. In fact, my particular fondness for financial accounting, cost accounting and auditing drove me to obtain two degrees from the University of Houston, my Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in accounting and my Master of Science in Accountancy. I have since gone on to earn my CPA license and more recently have set my sights on pursuing a CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) certification. Equal to my dedication to academic pursuits and continuing education is my penchant for teaching others. For the past 14 years, I have thrived on successfully teaching a wide breadth and depth of business and accounting topics to interns, mentees, colleagues, and entrepreneurs. More specifically, my experience in teaching students has incorporated general accounting, (principles of accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, month-end closing procedures, analysis of numerous current asset and current liability accounts, analysis of various periodic expense accounts, etc.) general audit procedures (i.e. lead sheets, accounts receivable confirmations, sampling, etc.), as well as cost and project accounting (advanced income statement analysis of purchase price variance, closed order variance, miscellaneous variance & period costs, scrap, warranty, rework, estimate-at-completion costs, research & development costs, etc.). Throughout my career I have largely measured my success based on the positive feedback received from interns on how my teaching and coaching lessons made a difference in their lives. Whether it aids them in earning a higher grade in their accounting class, demystifies accounting concepts that otherwise eluded them, shows them the real-world application of classroom accounting concepts in the workplace, helps them decide whether to pursue a career in public or industry accounting, or prepares them for the CPA exam, I enjoy taking the time to understand my students needs and tailoring my teaching style to set them up for success in achieving their goals. I also thoroughly enjoy spending time on game nights with family and friends, a good fictional read, improving my gardening skills, inventing new recipes to pair with my favorite coffees, and yoga.
