I am passionate about helping students learn and grow! I love seeing the confidence my students develop as they make break-throughs in their studies. I believe as they come to enjoy the process and rewards of learning, the positive attitude they cultivate can help them for their entire life.
I want to provide an intellectually and emotionally safe environment with my students. I will seek to establish a relationship of respect and trust so that we can be uninhibited by the fear of making mistakes. I hope to encourage my students to discover the intrinsic value and FUN of learning!
I graduated from the academically rigorous Skyline High School which has ranked #1 as the Best College Prep public high school in the state for a number of years. I served as Senior Class President and succeeded in many honors and AP courses there. It was during this time period that I really discovered my passion for learning and for mentoring. I started to understand the meaning and truth of William Butler Yeats statement that Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.
After a year of college on academic scholarship I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints in Japan for approximately 18 months. There I taught several English classes weekly as a volunteer. I came to love teaching all ages, but especially children!
Presently I am studying Music at Brigham Young University as a singer/songwriter with a specialty in contemporary vocal styles. I am also continuing my study of Japanese. Not only am I studying hard, but I am preparing to marry my best friend Ben in the Spring.
