Certified Tutor
Hello everyone! While new to the platform, I have an extensive tutoring background in college-level economics and statistics, and am excited to start back up again.
As an undergraduate, I was the head tutor for the department of economics at the University of Washington. While the position primarily focused on the micro and macro concepts from 200 and 300 level economics classes, students often needed help understanding the accompanying applied calculus, statistics and beginning econometric techniques. Additionally, I spent a year as a holistic tutor helping struggling freshman and sophomore students to establish solid study skills while providing general tutoring in all subjects (English, Sociology, Finance, Calculus, etc.).
In each tutoring session, I focus on both the concepts and the underpinning (but simple!) math. Inspired by a Latin teacher who told me, if you want to remember something, make it dirty -- I couple memorable and relatable examples with the Socratic method to help the student internalize the foreign concepts. Next, we will dive into the underlying equations, working through examples with progressively less help from me until you know how to set up the problem and attack it on your own. However, as everyone learns differently, I dont mind tailoring the session to involve math first, incorporating more visuals or making it more a free flowing!
Since my last tutoring position, I have been employed as a commercial real estate appraiser and investment-banking analyst while pursuing additional education in statistics/machine learning. Currently, I am heading back to school to get a certificate in coding, being disappointed over the Seahawks, and hopefully tutoring you!
