I began tutoring college algebra and trigonometry during my sophomore year at Kansas State University because one of my math professors at the time offered that opportunity to several students in her Accelerated Calculus class. I found that I really enjoyed sharing what I had learned, helping a student see something from a different perspective or finally grasp a concept that they had struggled with.

After I graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering, I began a career in the US Air Force, first working for the Air Force Research Lab, and then working for the National Air and Space Intelligence Center as a scientific and technical intelligence analyst. I have continued to seek opportunities to teach, and to share what I know, with junior employees, with my nieces and nephews and with my own children.

I enjoy teaching language, science, and preparing students for standardized testing, but I think I'm most passionate about teaching math because I believe learning math is helpful in developing brain function, in the same way that going to the gym is helpful to developing physical fitness. Although it requires effort, the process of learning math should involve the beneficial pain that leads to good results rather than the crippling pain that prevents any further progress that too many math students unfortunately experience.

Beyond my work as an analyst and a tutor, I enjoy reading and spending time with my kids. Since I have eleven (soon to be twelve) children ages 28 down to 2, there are a lot of opportunities!
