As a current college student, I understand what it takes for a student to be successful in the current academic climate. I am pursing a degree in Biomathematics at Rutgers University and a career in medicine, so I have developed an appreciation for both math and science through intensive college courses in Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, and Algebra. I have scored in the 99th percentile on standardized tests, including the SAT and SAT subject tests in Math and Biology, and I have taught each of these math and science courses privately, at tutoring centers, and at public libraries to students of all ages and learning backgrounds. I choose to teach these subjects not only because of my knowledge of the topics but also because the real life application of the concepts are fascinating to understand. I make an effort to incorporate the relevance of a lesson into my teaching as well. In the past, I have used the help and advice of professors and tutors to excel in my own studies. I see being a tutor as an opportunity to provide similar help and advice to fellow students. As a teacher, I employ the same learning strategy that has helped me throughout my education: I connect new topics to more familiar topics or objects. For example, the ideal gas law can be explained with a balloon and NMR problems can be explained with puzzles. Drawing these parallels has helped me retain information for longer, and I have noticed the same in my students. I also like to reinforce material with online simulations, demonstrations, and videos. In my free time, I enjoy sports of all kinds, basketball and baseball being some of my favorites. I also enjoy reading and writing, and I hope to publish a book and contribute to a news site one day.
