What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would try to show examples, and also try doing different problems to help the student understand the concept(s).
What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is to use various styles of teaching to bolster a student's learning until they are able to do so independently.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would introduce myself and allow the student to share their goals for the tutoring sessions so that we could be on the same page with how the later sessions would go.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can help a student become an independent learner by teaching them problem-solving strategies.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help a student stay motivated by offering frequent but sincere encouragement.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would try different teaching methods to see if a different method would help illustrate the concept better.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would read the passage through with them and ask them questions about the passage.
