What is your teaching philosophy?

I teach by using examples from real life. That helps students understand material easily and memorize it without much effort.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

First of all, I would like to get to know the student well to understand how best to teach him. I would love to learn about his strengths and weaknesses. I would ask questions about his past experiences with the subject -- what worked for her well in the past, and what didn't.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By giving her general directions and a few examples, and encouraging her to work on her own.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By helping her to see the big picture, by building on her success, and by encouraging her to challenge herself.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I will step back and ask questions to understand her problems. I will spend more time on those problems before we move forward.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I encourage reading books and essays. I emphasize the importance of focusing.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Teaching has to be fun! Building a good relationship with a student is very important for the success of our work.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Tests and questions.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By giving candid feedback and encouraging persistence.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

By asking questions.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

By experimenting to see what works best for him.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Books, tests, and videos.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

By helping them to see the big picture.
