What is your teaching philosophy?

Teach students where they are... Not all students will learn the same way or even at the same pace. It is my philosophy to engage the learner with different methods of learning that will gauge and keep their attention. Learning is meant to be 'fun.' It is my philosophy to allow learning to be made fun for the student so they can always apply the concept.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a typical first session, it is important to find out who you are; what your expected outcomes are; what would you like to get out of our sessions; and find out where they are in school with the subject.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

A student becomes independent when they can confidently perform the work in which they sought tutoring.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

A student stays motivated by staying engaged through acknowledgment and recognition. I will provide constant feedback for students.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

In order to conquer and master a skill, it is important to have ongoing repetition. This means we will practice, practice, and practice more.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Reading begins with confidence. It is important to first identify reading level. It is then where we will begin reading a level behind it to gain confidence. We will begin working on what are subjects, nouns, verbs, pronouns, and rhyming words. Next, we will read sentences and paragraphs and draw out the main idea, person, or place. Finally, students will be asked to interpret what is going on and why they think that way.
