Lauren

Certified Tutor

Im a graduate of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania; with a Masters in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College. As a middle school teacher and tutor, it is my promise to provide every one of my students with a customized plan for their achievement. There is no single, successful approach to instruction. After four years teaching High School English, four more years teaching middle school Language Arts, seven years as a one on one and small group instructor in the areas of test-prep, reading and writing, I can confidently say I possess an extensive collection of research-based strategies and techniques. I also pride myself on the development and design of support materials that are both innovative and engaging. My students have fun during their tutoring sessions and look forward to their next one!

My favorite subjects to teach are reading and writing; specifically, using close reading strategies and composing research-based persuasive arguments. Nelson Mandela said, Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. I sincerely believe that the key to an individual's future success is directly connected to his or her abilities as a reader, writer, and critical thinker. When I'm not teaching middle school, you can find me walking my dog, running outdoors, or reading a book with a good cup of coffee.

What is your teaching philosophy?

When a student experiences difficulty with a skill or concept, initially, it's important to look at a student's learning style. First, what is this student's preferred approach to learning? Is he or she visual or verbal? Does he or she learn best through technology? Once these questions are answered, a solution can be developed that incorporates this student's learning style.
