Learning is fun and time flies when you're having fun. Time is limited, yet what you can learn in that time in limitless.

I have lived in China for 8 years and received a Masters Degree in Ancient Chinese Literature and Characters, and am currently receiving a PhD in ancient Chinese philosophy, I have also translated many ancient Confucian and Taoist Chinese texts. While receiving my masters degree I was the only foreigner at my university so I only spoke, read and wrote Chinese the entire time.

I really enjoy teaching Chinese and believe it is the easiest language in the world. I have also written a paper in Chinese explaining how Chinese is the easiest language to learn and wrote many fun and interesting ways to learn Chinese.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Learning should be fun and time flies when you're having fun, but time is limited. What you can learn in that time is limitless.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Teach the students the basic concepts of the Chinese language and how to greet others and introduce themselves.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Show students how learning can be fun and show them fun ways to read and learn on their own.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By making sure the student is always using what they learned in real life and is able to see the benefits of using what they learned.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would use simple examples the student can understand and relate the context to his or her own interests.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I first help them to read and understand a passage and then let them read and understand it on their own and try to make sure they are interested in the content.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Getting a student interested is the best way to make them successful. Once they have learned how fun learning can be, they will work harder and enjoy learning more.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would have the student use what they have learned in real life, encourage students to go out and use what they learned, and play interested and fun games on the subject they are learning.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would have the students use what they have learned in different situations and give them little tests and tasks to see if they truly understand.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Make sure the student really understands the material, and always stay positive with the student no matter what mistakes they may make.
