Katie: Halifax tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a second year special educator for Columbus City Schools. I love tutoring as it provides a special opportunity for a unique learning relationship, where I can focus 100% of my energies on one individual and what s/he needs AND wants in a learning session. I believe that every student has his or her own path to success, and I love being a small part of those paths to the future!

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every individual learns differently. To be the most successful team, my tutee needs to be just as aware of his/her own learning preferences as I am about his/her unique learning style.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Positive verbal reinforcements and creating an encouraging atmosphere where the student feels comfortable to push him or herself is crucial to becoming an independent learner.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
My teaching style is "I do, We do, You do" and if necessary, sometimes you have to revert back to the "We do" or even the "I do" stage and use a new method or strategy to reinforce learning.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
School provided materials and online resources.
