How can you help a student become an independent learner?
In order to become an independent learner, a student must develop a specific skill set. Some of these skills include passion, good work ethic, determination, and the ability to use resources properly. The information and answers are out there!
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I motivate students by continuing to be a resource for them. When an individual is given the proper tools and training, their confidence only increases. I enjoy teaching tremendously. As an instructor, I try to engender this sense of passion in my students, which also increases motivation.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would need to thoroughly work with the student in order to work through any blocks. Sometimes confusion can occur due to miscommunication, or conflicting information in other subject areas. As an instructor, one must also be skilled at listening and intuition in order to get to the root of the problem. Not everyone is exceptional at every subject, but I am confident I can help a student be at least comfortable with the subject at hand.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would first need to rule out any learning disabilities. If none are found, I would work one on one with vocabulary, which is the base of reading comprehension. In short, I have a series of exercises that can pinpoint issues with vocabulary, pronunciation, and thus comprehension.
