Maurice
Certified Tutor
I have a teaching certificate through the State of Board of Education from the state of Michigan. I have taught on the elementary, middle and secondary level. I also have experience as a college professor teaching both English composition and mathematics.
My responsibility in making every effort to ensure that my students have what they require in order to become effective in their respective disciplines is tantamount to my passion for tutoring. Educating students is my primary objective with respect to the assurance that they thoroughly understand the instruction I provide for them. I believe that such a responsibility is the mainstay that enables students to become the citizens they ultimately expect to aspire to. Further, it is my job to provide the requisite tools they require in order for them to become productive in this global job market.
I am excited about continued work within the tutorial arena. I have tutored students during after-school tutorial programs. I have also worked as a tutor for both Marygrove College and the University of Detroit Mercy where I have tutored high school students.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, I would adjust my lesson in order to keep pace with his learning style, hold a conference with the parent and student in order to assess the student's challenges, and draft a lesson that addresses the student's needs.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I would remind the student of the following: My purpose is to assist them with their learning needs. Increasing one's knowledge of the subject matter is based upon the quality of study time and not the quantity of study time. I would also remind them that managing one's time is important with respect to attaining the goals they intend to meet.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
The materials I typically use during a tutoring session include any graded tests from the student, supplementary material consistent with the concepts I must teach, and, if possible, a relative online textbook.
