After becoming acquainted, set up a goal plan and schedule to follow so that each lesson can be broken down into segments, allowing maximum work time, understanding, etc. This way ensures student is ready to move on to next step.

By helping them to find ways that they can understand the work they are being asked to do, and, therefore, helping them to become confident. A student who is confident and sure of what they are doing is what I believe helps give a student motivation.

Explore new ways to approach the subject. Not all students learn from one set method, and exploring new ideas WITH the student ensures that they can understand the problem better.

Ask them if they have a preferred way to go about the problem or if there is a game they want to create, or use, that helps them to better understand.

Review questions I have found to be very helpful. A student can memorize a problem, but when the same problem is asked using different wording or numbers, it can be beneficial to have the student go about it a different way, making sure that they truly understand the root of the problem being asked of them.

I believe that once someone has grasped the root concept of what they are learning, they are able to become successful in whatever they set their mind to. Learning a new task is challenging, as we all know, and to feel proud that you were able to once master something you couldn't even understand is an amazing feeling.

I have found that by having the student design a problem-solving technique with me helps them to better understand, because they are using a method they DO understand and are able to look at the problem the way their mind understands.

Playing a game, whether it's a word game or math game, I've noticed helps students to understand the material in a fun way and helps them to build their confidence in what they are being asked to do.

Start off by looking at the problem they are needing help with, begin with basic examples of that problem, and see where the student lies in terms of that particular problem.

I am a firm believer that a student who has fun is more likely willing to learn more, and therefore, I like to adapt my way of tutoring to one that is fun AND proactive, because this ensures the student wants to keep learning.

Depending on what is needed, I like to use games of sorts, as well as read aloud problems and different word problems with the same end goal as what they are currently studying.

By showing them the step-by-step process. Once a student truly understands the challenge and problem they are being asked to overcome, it makes them more confident in their learning. They want to learn and want to do well in what they are struggling with, and once a student understands what is being asked of them, they can begin to work independently.

By breaking down the reading materials and reviewing the basics of what they were taught earlier in life, I have found it's greatly effective in helping them to comprehend what they are trying to learn.
