Jordan
Certified Tutor
I am a recent college graduate with a degree in accounting and graduated from Bloomsburg University. I passed the CPA exam and have extensive knowledge and Microsoft office software. I get to know my tutees by first asking them how they prefer to learn. I then base my lesson plan on their preferred style of teaching. I like to break down problems step by step and help guide the student so they completely understand the material.
My favorite subjects to tutor are the CPA exam, intermediate accounting, financial accounting, cost accounting, managerial accounting, and ITM.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I like to ask students what specific questions they have on the material first. After addressing their concerns I will do practice problems with them in the area they are struggling in. I then have the student talk me through the problem to ensure they understand the material.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will introduce myself and try to understand what their goals are over the next few weeks. Then based off of their goals, I will create a custom lesson plan for them.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will first show them how to perform a problem step by step. Then I will have them perform the problem in front of me and guide me to the answer.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would tell them to embrace any small steps of progress they have made, as well as use that as evidence that they can succeed.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would try and explain it multiple ways and use various examples in order for them to understand the material. If they were stilled confused I would have them watch some supplemental videos in their spare time.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I tell them to read slowly and read the same paragraph multiple times to truly understand what the author is trying to convey.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I like having in having a student talk to me out loud about how they will solve a problem. This helps me determine their weak and strong areas on a particular topic.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would correlate the information with subject material they are interested in, as well as try to make it relatable.
