What is your teaching philosophy?
Adapt to what kind of learning the student best responds to; that way learning is fun and easy going, and never frustrating.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know each other a bit, in order to know how to approach each topic the best way possible.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I think making different suggestions on how I taught myself, the material could bring some insight to someone in how to go about understanding the topic.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I think trying different approaches with visual, verbal and physical model modalities helps give options to a student as far as what will work better for them.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
It might be a good idea in this case, to go slow and take everything apart piece by piece so that the student's vocabulary may be expanded, and every part of what they are reading might make more sense.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Patience, and not giving up on something, but rather approaching it differently.
