What is your teaching philosophy?

I have been a top student in all my classes from preschool to PhD. Even in PhD, I have passed all my courses with an A and my GPA is 4.00. I am not nerd, but I am smart! To be a good teacher, the first step you need is to be a good student, but it’s not enough. You have to love teaching and know how to teach students. It comes from experience, and I have more than ten years experience of teaching my friends, my clients, and college students. My students always leave my session with a nice smile on their face! You can try...

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Showing up earlier in the session to have a chance to introduce ourselves to each other, and find out why my student needs me as a tutor and how I can help him/her in the most efficient way.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I was an independent learner, and I do not hesitate to share with my students all strategies and tricks I have learned or invented to understand concepts and keep them in my mind forever.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I am very patient in my classes and never leave my smile on my face. There are several ways to teach a unique concept. If one way doesn't work, I try the next one. I choose the next way based on feedback from student.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Connecting what your child already knows while she reads sharpens her focus and deepens understanding. Show her how to make connections by sharing your own connections as you read aloud. Maybe the book mentions places you've been together on vacation. Talk about your memories of those places. Invite your child to have a turn. Remind your child that good readers make all kinds of connections as they read.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Start with a very warm greeting and make him/her feels confident about my ability to help him/her.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

With explaining a material in detail and then solving an example together, and reminding him/her that he/she helped me to solve it; now let's do another example together!

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Asking questions during lecture and asking the student to start to solve the example, or sometimes to summarize the material of the session.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By helping the student to solve difficult examples BY HIM/HERSELF.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

By asking about his feeling in the class and how the teacher is, and by reviewing previous material.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I always try do have a friendly connection with my students, and as soon as I feel there might be some confusion, I go by more detail and make sure that student understands the material.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I usually ask students to share with me their notes, homework problems and some screenshots of their book to make sure we follow their class track and teacher's method. Then I use a whiteboard to solve the problems.
