Certified Tutor
Finishing in the cum laude at Stephen F. Austin High School, I now attend the University of Houston. I'm currently in my second year there, working towards a computer science degree with a possibility of a minor in either business or education. Most of my tutoring experienced comes from being tutored myself, so I hope to improve on the ways that were brought onto me and extending other ways forward. I tutor computer science and mathematics as they are required for my degree, thus I must excel at them. My tutoring style is hands on with a emphasis on explaining things in a new way if an older way did not help. Outside of education, I enjoy playing video games and exercising.

If students cannot understand something one way, introduce it in a new way.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Introduce each other, and look over their homework and test grades to get a feel for their skill level.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
It’s important to teach them how to study and learn on their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Offer rewards or perks along the way.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Break it down in a new way for them to understand.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Slow it down and guide them along, while making sure they understand the smaller details.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Explain it in several ways rather than just one way, if possible.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Paint it in a light that works with their interest.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Use quizzes or questions that we've worked on before that they needed help with.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Go over several questions with slight changes to make sure they understand.
