I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

James

Certified Tutor

My academic journey began with homeschooling, with which I continued through high school. Although, from sophomore year till graduation I took all but a few of my courses at the local state college through the dual enrollment program. I was then accepted into the bioengineering program at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), where I am just entering into my senior year, and will be completing my bachelors in 2017.

Though I have not worked as a tutor in the past I have done brief volunteer work tutoring math (on a mission trip and to some friends and their kids). Aside from these, I understand what it is like to struggle through a course or subject, and have had to figure out how I learn. This has given me an understanding of the different ways that people learn.

Now as I am an engineer, I mainly tutor math, however I also have experience with human physiology, physics (general as well as the engineering ones like statics & dynamics and a bunch of electronics stuff), SAT test prep, as well as anything having to do with Bioengineering (yes that includes biomedical). I wouldn't say that I have a preference towards any of these because that changes so often, and whatever it is I happen to be interested in at that time, I get very passionate about.

Aside from school I enjoy a lot of different things like the outdoors, music (listening and playing), reading, talking about the universe, chess, and a ton of other random and not so random things. I heard the term polymath recently and I wouldn't say that's me (because those are people like Edison, Tesla, and all the people who seem to have made the modern world) but i'm definitely headed that way as I am constantly learning something new, whether it's trying to master it or just reading everything about it. My personality tends to be very goofy and caring, however I tend to be more like a charismatic businessman when first meeting people.
