Certified Tutor

My name is Sre, and I am a medical student at Saint Louis University starting in August of 2016. I graduated with a degree in Health Management and a minor in Biology at Saint Louis University. I have been a student tutor at Saint Louis University for the past two years, and have immensely enjoyed the experience of teaching students and having them gain a better understanding of the subjects that trouble them. I try to maintain a positive attitude with all students I have, and remind them that hard work will pay off. My teaching style is to direct students towards the answer, and have them teach the material back to me, so that they will have that stronger understanding of the subject material. I am free during the summer as I will be staying in Saint Louis, and will be planning to tutor year long during my free time in medical school as well.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Making sure students understand the subject material is important in my tutoring sessions, so I like to implement teachings standards where the student teaches me. As the tutor I direct the students in the right direction, but make sure they are able to teach the information back to me. This way, they have a solid understanding of the material that they can use in future sessions.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would first want to understand how much of the subject the student understands, and from there, build up the foundations of the subject. From that, I would continue with the student lessons by relaying information on the topic, and have the students teach it back to me.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I would suggest students to read the textbooks. It can be ignored often, but it really has a plethora of helpful information. I will help in pointing them in the right direction, and possibly assign small amounts of homework to put them in the right track.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I can help students stay motivated by providing continuous positive reinforcement. Subjects can be challenging and hard to grasp. However, hard work and perseverance will pay off in the end. It's all a matter of diligence to work.
