Maximilian
Certified Tutor
I am a Medical Doctor completing my residency in Ophthalmology. I greatly enjoy working with patients but miss the opportunities to teach and tutor that I have had in the past. To me there is nothing more rewarding than helping a student approach a subject that they are struggling in, helping them tackle the tough material, then see them succeed, to me that is one of the greatest feelings in the world!!!
After graduating from high school with a 4.1 GPA my grades and success in the ACT/SAT helped me earn a full academic scholarship, and I graduated with high honors from college in 3 years. After testing well on the MCAT I went directly to medical school and now am in residency.
I tutor MCAT, ACT, SAT, and most subjects of the GRE. One unique tutoring ability that I can offer is help to pre med students in both planning you application, taking the MCAT, preparation of the application for med school, and med school interview prep.
I have been blessed with great academic accomplishments, have learned how to do well on standardized tests, and now I want to use my approachability, enthusiasm, and teaching skills to help you succeed and accomplish your goals for the future. You can do it!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would get to know the student's goals, and their goals for the tutoring session, along with seeing what their learning style is so that we can most effectively approach and master the material.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By giving the student confidence above all, and by teaching them the most effective, time efficient, and best study methods for their unique learning style.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I have been in some form of school or training for 22 years, and have figured out how to make learning even the toughest/most tedious subject fun. Through encouragement, communication, and coaching, I can help maintain focus to accomplish their goal.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would have the student step back, and we would take an in depth look at how they are approaching the difficult material, and customize their study strategy to their learning style for the most effective, efficient way to master the difficult material.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I was there; I actually didn't reach my grade level proficiency in reading until 5th grade! In my struggle I learned how to think outside of the box, and found strategies that helped me comprehend what I was reading by looking at the material in a unique way that I will teach to you!
What is your teaching philosophy?
Teaching is a team effort between the teacher and the student to tackle the subject matter in a way that the student can best understand and retain.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I like to first of all find out what the student's learning style is: kinetic, auditory, visual, etc., then make goals with the student.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I like to make subject matter live by incorporating a student's interests into the material that we are covering.1/2x1/3 becomes a lot more interesting when you think of this as proportions of a pizza instead of just boring numbers. :)
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
The key to understanding is frequent monitoring of the student's comprehensions. I like to use practice questions throughout the session to measure the level of understanding and to make sure that goals of the session are being met.
