The happiest thing for me is teaching Chinese. I love teaching. I love working with people, especially on their Chinese language. I'm very nice, friendly and patient. I have taught and tutored many people in Chinese, from 3 years old of kid to sixty years old. I'm very proud of them. They are all great! Learning Chinese is really cool. You can go to China for tour, working or exploring Chinese culture without language obstacles. China is so big and it's growing fast. Mastering Chinese definitely is a significant advantage for you. What is your teaching philosophy?
There are no poor learners; only inappropriate teaching methods.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Talk with the student to know about his/her character, Chinese level, study habits, hobbies, etc. To be their friends, then a teacher.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Guide them step by step.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Encourage them and relate it to things they are interested in.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Be patient and encourage him/her.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Help him/her learn more new words, grammar, idioms, and the cultures.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Show the student the big vision. Praise and encourage.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Give him/her good comments every time they achieve even a little bit. Encouragement is very important.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Ask questions to see if he/she understands the material.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Let them show what they learned in the activities, give them positive comments, encourage them, and acknowledge their achievement.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Tests, observations, and talking and asking the students.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
According to the student's needs, make an individual plan for him/her; only for them-- not for somebody else.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
The textbook, flashcards, exercise practice paper, pictures, videos, markers, pens.
