I have always been fascinated by my mathematical studies and, having a flair for the subject, there was never any doubt that I would choose Engineering as a degree. Mathematics is a pivotal subject on which so many others depend (such as physics and chemistry). I relish the challenge of problem solving that mathematics provides. For me, it is an endlessly intriguing subject, as the discipline appears limitless, allowing so much scope for further study and research.
My interest has spread to computers and trying to link the two together has played a big part of my life in the last few years. I have taught myself, using books and other available sources, how to program in JAVA and HTML and this has made it possible for me to take an active role in web design.
I'm looking forward to experiencing university life - it will not only give me the academic grounds to get into careers like Computer Science and research, but the social experience in itself is something to look forward to.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first session consists on getting to know the student and his expectations. It is also to determine the student's knowledge by giving an assessment to evaluate their skills and understanding of the subject in relation to their grade level. In addition to that, I want to make a good impression by making the student feels comfortable and learning about what motivates them. Finally, collaborate with the student on a plan of action. Incorporate the student into the lesson planning so they become a part of their own learning process.
