I have always loved mathematics. Someday I will obtain my PhD in that subject. My school background is rough since I was born with a hearing disability. I was not the best academically, but I was involved in soccer. This hardship increased due to procrastination. Procrastination is a nasty habit that haunts everyone. That is more reason why I should tutor others. I have a deeper understanding why students struggle in their subjects. I know where the roadblocks are and how to overcome them. I no longer have trouble hearing ever since I undergone ear surgery and changed my life dramatically. I still feel like I am playing catch up, but that seems not to be the case in all areas. Everyone is playing catch up in at least one area of study.

What is your teaching philosophy?
One important factor is patience with a dash of simplicity and clarity.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would like to get to know my student outside of education and then learn more about them during the tutoring session. You cannot learn effectively unless you feel comfortable.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will show students various techniques on how to tackle certain subjects. Also, I'll tell them the importance of learning about their flaws and strengths.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I will try my best to make that subject fun and interesting, and show the application of these subjects.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
First, I need to locate the problem. Secondly, see why they think the answer they put down is right. See how they use logic to justify the answer.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
First off you must know the definitions of words you are reading. Using logic and the definitions should greatly help reading comprehension.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I have been struggling in school all my life. I found many different strategies may help. Note, these strategies are not universal.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
We could play educational games. How this subject relates to the world around them.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I will give them a very short quiz to see if they retain the knowledge we discussed.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
To show how easy the subject is once you find the right techniques on how to solve the problem.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I will treat each student differently because each student is unique. I will adapt accordingly to my student’s needs.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I would only need your book, paper and a pencil.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I would ask what areas they need help in and then give them a few easy problems. I will also ask them questions of why on each step during a problem.
