Jadd
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of the writing program at Eckerd College under Sterling Watson, where I received an extensive education on everything from the nuts and bolts of word choices and sentence structure to the underlying philosophy behind good writing. In the years since, I have put my knowledge of writing to use in both a journalistic and marketing capacity, writing everything from news blurbs to product copy to editorials. I am an avid reader and have spent the better part of two decades absorbing new ideas about the craft of writing and refining my understanding of it. I also love sharing what I've gleaned to help others elevate their own abilities and writing development. At present, I work as the Digital Marketing Director for a youth education and personal empowerment company (for whom I either write or edit 99% of all company language and messaging), and I contribute to two online music sites as a creative outlet for my continued interest in music journalism.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I try to teach through asking questions and helping students come to as much understanding as possible on their own.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Try to ascertain their level of comfort with the subject and establish what they do and don't know to get a starting point.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By getting them familiar with seeing what questions to ask themselves about the problem or project they're working on.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Try to help them achieve small wins throughout the process through coming to conclusions on their own as much as possible.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Attempt to find a different way to present it.
