Certified Tutor

I'm a recent graduate from the University of Virginia who studied Linguistics as an undergrad. During my studies I had the opportunity to study five languages, and also tutored and taught English to adults and kids in the Charlottesville community. I recently returned from a year abroad in Taiwan where I taught English to children aged 6 to 16. Living in a foreign country is something I had always wanted to do, and I learned so much during my time there. I'm a lover of language learning, reading, writing, and running, not to mention teaching!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a typical first session I like to work with my students to figure out their learning goals and preferred learning styles. I think teaching is most effective when there is a clear objective and teaching strategy involved.
