Certified Tutor
From my experience teaching as a lecturer and laboratory instructor at both a university and community college, I have worked with students from varying educational backgrounds. It is particularly important for me to identify the learning style that best fits each student and present concepts that will be most effective for him or her. I make an effort to provide the optimal learning environment by having an upbeat, friendly and non-judgmental attitude in hopes to inspire intellectual curiosity and academic growth.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, I would mainly do an assessment. I would inquire about the content/material of the course, and then determine which areas the student needs to work on and go from there.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
After we work together to identify his/her learning style by trying out several, the obvious learning style will be incorporated into the subsequent lessons, with the hopes of the student gaining more confidence in learning independently using the skills they have acquired.
What is your teaching philosophy?
1.) To determine my students' preferred learning style (i.e. discussions, quizzes, worksheets, analogies, audio, Q&A) and cater my teaching style to suit their learning needs. 2.) Provide a friendly and non-judgmental environment to encourage my students to ask questions and ask for clarity on concepts that they are unsure of.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By tracking their academic progress (in terms of test scores), asking relevant subject questions, giving them positive feedback and listening to their concerns.
