I am currently a student at Saint Louis University studying Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering. I've tutored since I was a freshman in high school, and am currently a Math and Physics tutor at Saint Louis University. My favorite subject to tutor would have to be any Math or Physics, as they are the most applicable courses for my major and have an interesting way of being applied to the real world.
I would describe my teaching style to be very flexible and dependent on the student as everyone learns with different techniques. Often times students don't necessarily understand something in class because they don't prefer the teaching style and so I think as a tutor it is important for me to have various approaches to different problems ready.
Outside of academia, I try to stay as physically fit as possible. My interests are running (was a track/field and cross country runner in high school), playing basketball, and flag football.

Get to know them a little.

Teach techniques that are helpful and help develop good study habits.

Taking small breaks after finishing a chunk of studying.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
There are often multiple methods to learn, so use various ways and see what the student is comfortable with.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Help break down problems into a step-by-step method.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Ask follow up questions to see how well the student understood the concept.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Start with easy problems and work up to harder problems, adding in different methods as we go.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I try a method and then see how the student feels about it, and then ask what he/she is comfortable with.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Show real life applications; help build confidence with easier problems so they feel more comfortable doing the problems.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Typically try to ask them what they're struggling with, but also asking concept questions and various altered versions of problems.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Whiteboard, practice problems, internet, class notes (if any).
What is your teaching philosophy?
Approach a single problem in various ways and get comfortable with all the methods.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Start by breaking down the material into sub sections so it's easier and not as overwhelming.
